I recently made my own home made granola. My husband is avoiding gluten because of the relief it gives him from a chronic health condition. He can tolerate oats though and I’ve been buying boxes store bought granola, but the packaging is so wasteful and not to mention it’s often pretty expensive–especially the higher quality versions without extensive amounts of added sugars. So, I decided to make my own and it was pretty easy.
Ingredients:
- Rolled oats
- Unsweetened coconut flakes
- Slivered almonds
- Pepitas (pumpkin seeds)
- Vanilla
Basically you toast the oats and other add-ins on low heat in the oven for from 4-12 minutes. I recommend toasting them separately as opposed to after mixing the ingredients–they each have separate toasting times.
It lasts for about a week.
Experiment with your add-ins and flavorings. For my next batch, I’m going to add sesame seeds and ginger.
