TGIF: Thank God for Illustration Friday – Sibylle Dodinot

I have a special treat for today’s TGIF: Thank God for Illustration Friday. First off, I am featuring the lovely work of  Sibylle Dodinot and as if that is not enough, I am also giving away a copy of one of her illustrations as well. One lucky reader can win a copy of the print Au Clair de la Lune (11×17). Details below.

Before we get to the giveaway, let’s talk about Sibylle and her work.  Sibylle is  a 23-year-old French artist who is inspired by the fashion world and especially by music. Generally each piece she creates corresponds to a particular song or an album. For example, the print Au Clair de la Lune is inspired by a famous French song of the same name. The inspiration for Folk was the album Good Around by Tunng, especially the song Bullets, and also the Into the Wild soundtrack.  For the piece Les Coquelicots, it was the albums of Emiliana Torrin. Sibylle does not create her works to be based directly based on these songs and albums, but it’s more about the mood that they set which allows her to be inspired.

Pretty interesting, huh. I know I am always really interested in how others are inspired. It’s easy to think that people come up with things in the exact way that you do, but that’s not always the case and I find that just so fascinating.

  1. Wow! Stunning! I never leave comments, but I can’t resist adding my awe to the list. I’m most drawn to Au Claire de la Lune.

  2. L’amour en cage is my absolute favorite.. but they are all very stunning and bring a calm feeling over me.

  3. I would have a tough time narrowing it down to one but I would probably choose L’oiseau vert as my favorite but Vent d’hiver and un jour en bord de mir are close behind. What a lovely giveaway – such talent!!!!!

  4. L’amour en cage is my favorite… I think… they’re all so ver lovely! )

  5. I just put Sibylle in my favorites last week! Her work is so beautiful and I truly love everything in her shop. French, fashion, drawing – ooh la la, c’est parfait! I’ve been looking for art for my studio walls and I just haven’t been able to decide which of her prints I should get. I adore Au Clair de la Lune, followed by Les Parapluies. Thanks for featuring her work!

  6. Her work is all so lovely! It is impossible to pick just one favorite. I really like Rose, Au clair de la lune, Un printemps brumeux, and Les coquelicots.

  7. I love these prints, my mother would play that song all the time when I was little girl. Great blog!

  8. oooh! i followed a link to this lovely site from a post on Blog-Mod3rnart’s. It feels like I lucked out finding just YOU – and now I’ve found SibylleD! what a great morning. 😀
But to answer the question – difficult to say. I love the “au Claire de la Lune” for the pale elegance but the “L’amour en cage” is fantastic as well. I thought the boots in it were a great bit of humor and the cages were such a delicate contrast to the softness of the background.

  9. “Hauntingly beautiful” is the perfect way to describe Sibylle’s illustrations! Seriously, they are so stunning and unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Thanks for turning me onto her work and for a chance of winning a print! I can’t decide whether “Le phare” or “Au clair de la lune” itself is my absolute favorite, so I’ll just say it’s a tie.

  10. A Magnificent pictures!
A delicated work, with immense feeling. To try to choose a preferred one is very difficult, because i love it all, but the “Vent d’ to hiver” and the “Baiser nocturne”, leave me without words…

  11. I’m really glad you turned me on to this artist! With any luck, I will win your contest, because Au Clair de la Lune is my favorite, but I also love Le Phare, and many others!

  12. Amazing paintings, with such lovely lines and colors. I think my favorite is Baiser nocturne, because of the whimsy factor:) I love images that suggest magic in subtle ways.

  13. Wow, what hauntingly beautiful illustrations! They’re all stunning, but Au Clair de la Lune really is my favorite.

  14. J’adore Diptyque Les Coquelicots because I can’t make up my mind which of the two coquelicots I prefer! This is such beautiful work.

  15. Wow, I’ve never seen her shop before –
Love Folk! and also Soleil, hmmm and also Les Printemps. Impossible to choose! Thanks for the chance!

  16. I love Sibylle Dodinot’s work. Simply breath-taking. My definite favourite is Le Mariage however. There’s just something about it.

  17. I fell in love with Au Claire de la Lune. Not only is it beautiful, but my grandmother use to sing that song to me when I was a small child.

  18. My favorite is Les coquelicots, I just love the vivid red in this work!

  19. I also absolutely love Les Printemps & my next favourite would have to be Folk. Ah, so beautiful!

  20. But I also would like “Diptyque Les Coquelicots 2 prints 17×9 inch” in my bathroom as well. I need two bathrooms, obv.

  21. What gorgeous stuff. My favorites are L’oiseau Vert and Soleil. Sorry, I couldn’t pick just one! 🙂

  22. Absolutely beautiful and so ethereal, as if from a dream. Au Claire de la lune speaks to me most. To sit on the moon and watch over the world would be magical!

  23. It’s so hard to choose! I love Le mariage, but also feel very drawn to the ones with the woman alone in nature

  24. Hard to choose just one favourite. But I must…it’s “Vent d’hiver 11×17” picture reminds me so much of friendship.
