Occupy Delaware

November 17, 2011

Lately, I’ve been involved with the Occupy Delaware movement.  We are a diverse group of folks from all walks of life, of all ages, backgrounds and political ideologies and we have come together to begin a discussion on how we can address our common concerns about the state of our nation. We sent up tents in Wilmington, coming up on two weeks ago, and for a period of time we were actually on the sidewalk sans tents, until we were able to reach a deal with the city.

Last night we welcomed marchers from the NYC to DC March (Occupy the Highway) into our “home away from home” in Wilmington, DE. They were road weary, hungry and tired, but greatly appreciative of the hot food, tents and showers we had to offer them. They will resume their march to DC today with the plan to arrive by the November 23rd Super Committee decision on whether to keep President Barack Obama’s extension of Bush-era tax cuts or not.

Whether you approve of the nationwide Occupy movement or not, I think we all should be proud of all of these engaged citizens voicing their concerns…it is only for a group of  engaged citizens that our nation now exists after all.

Here’s some pictures and videos from last night at Occupy Delaware.
