Make: Cozy Wool Throw

January 24, 2012

Looking for a winter sewing project? One that will keep you warm during and after you make it? How about this Cozy Wool Throw Project from the last issue of Joie? Put together by Rebecca Thoms Hanley of BananaSauarus Rex, it’s an easy enough project that even I could complete it…and I probably couldn’t sew myself out of a paper bag.

To read the article, click HERE or use the viewer above. It starts on page #116.

Not crafty, here’s some goodies you can buy from the BananaSauarus Rex shop.

Foraging!

October 27, 2011

If you haven’t yet read the latest issue of Joie, then you missed the fabulous article on Foraging by Lisa Jordan from lilfish studios and Lisa Broberg. The ladies came together to write about one of their mutual pastimes and to share their knowledge and experience with foraging for foods in their area.

To read the article, click HERE. It starts on page #34.

To read more about foraging, make sure to read Julie’s blog as well as Lisa’s blog. As active practitioners, both periodically share their adventures in foraging!

I’d also like to thank artist Kate Dolamore for creating the artwork for the Foraging article. I am a bog fan of her work and own 4 of her fairy prints!

Little Red Riding Hood + Combining Two Loves

October 04, 2011

In the latest issue of Joie, one of my favorite features was the Little Red Riding Hood photo shoot by Barbara Sevastra. Barbara is  French photographer who combines her love of photography with her interest in doll collecting to create some of the loveliest photos on the Web.  The dolls just come to life in her beautifully-lighted images.

To see more of her Little Red Riding Hood photo shoot, click HERE. It starts on page #10.

Plus, here’s some more of her gorgeous work! You can see more on her website.

Joie issue #5 is out!

September 06, 2011

joie magazine

The much awaited issue #5 of Joie magazine has finally come to fruition! I’m super proud of this issue. Myself and my contributors really poured our hearts into this one for sure.

As you know, each issue of Joie has a theme. Issue #5’s theme is Nourish. From dictionary.com…

Nourish -

1. to sustain with food or nutriment; supply with what is necessary for life, health, and growth.

2. to cherish, foster, keep alive, etc.: He had long nourished the dream of living abroad.

3. to strengthen, build up, or promote: to nourish discontent among the workers; to nourish the arts in one’s community.

For this issue, all three definitions apply.  And hopefully, in its pages you will find some inspiration to sustain yourselves, foster your dreams and to buildup yourself and others.

In case you aren’t familiar with Joie, it’s a quarterly lifestyle magazine that I edit around a theme. Once I decide on a theme, I invite artists, writers & photographers to come up with articles and photo essays inspired by that theme and then I put the issue together. All this wonderful content is completely original and not to be found anywhere else on the Interwebs!

Read issue #5 of Joie!

So, take a look at Issue #5, it’s a super big issue—watch out Anna Wintour and the fall issue of Vogue—and be sure to let me know what you think in the comments below!

Before I go take a much needed break…I’d like to thank my wonderful contributors and advertisers for this issue, they make it possible for me to share all this loveliness with you!
