One of my favorites from the last issue of Joie magazine is the fashion spread by photographer Diana Santisteban. You can see it below. Isn’t it just stunning?
Diana’s work is very reminiscent of 1970s fashion photography and I must say that I am smitten. Here’s a sampling of some of her other work. To see more, visit her website or her flickr page.

With Mother’s Day fast approaching, I thought I’d share this article from the latest issue of Joie about planning a tea party. Written by Jasmine Norrie of Betty Le Bonbon Cheek Boutique, it includes definitions of the different types of tea events (think Afternoon and High Tea) as well as tips and recipes for throwing your own tea party.
Wouldn’t it be a lovely idea to celebrate Mom with a tea thrown in her honor? Plus, it’s a nice excuse to make finger sandwiches and to sit out in the yard drinking tea and/or Champagne!
Thanks to both Jasmine Norrie of Betty Le Bonbon Cheek Boutique for writing the article and to Samantha Walker who contributed the illustrations used in the article. Be sure to check out Samantha’s shop too, she just might have some digital kits for sale that you could use for invitations to your tea. I like the Damask Kit.

And if you need a source for good tea, try Harney & Sons, it’s where I buy most of our tea. The Soho Blend is my latest obsession.

Today, I’m featuring the work of artist Jordan Kay Phillip. Jordan is a maker & seller of arty things as well as an artist for hire. She recently contributed an illustration to the latest issue of Joie mag, which you can see below.
Here are some of my favorites from Jordan’s Utopia series. the series is an ongoing project based on Jordan’s childhood fantasies about what she thought womanhood would be like. She admits to being thoroughly inspired by Hollywood film and that it certainly colored her expectations of what womanhood would be like. I asked Jordan to create a piece for Joie that had the feel of this series, but that also incorporated the theme of the issue (frolic) somehow. I think she hit it spot on!

Finally, here’s some of my favorites from Jordan’s Sketch Diary series.

Issue #6 of Joie magazine is finally here!
As you know, each issue of Joie has a theme and this issue’s theme is Frolic, which is one of my favorite words.
Frolic -
n. 1. Gaiety; merriment: fun and frolic.
2. A gay, carefree time.
3. A playful antic.
intr.v. frol·icked, frol·ick·ing, frol·ics
1. To behave playfully and uninhibitedly; romp.
2. To engage in merrymaking, joking, or teasing.
adj. Archaic
Merry. – TheFreeDictionary.com
Take your pick, all meanings do apply to this issue! And hopefully, in its pages you will find some inspiration to fund the frolic in your lives.
In case you aren’t familiar with Joie, it’s a quarterly lifestyle magazine that I edit around a theme. Once I decide on a theme, I invite artists, writers & photographers to come up with articles and photo essays inspired by that theme and then I put the issue together. All this wonderful content is completely original and not to be found anywhere else on the Interwebs!
