1. I get a lot of my inspiration from children’s books. I look at the colors and textures that author and illustrator use to make my own art.

2. I also go to different blogs. Craftpad is one of my new favorites. She has a lot of fun and inexpensive ideas.

3. I also like Claudine Hellmuth’s blog. Her collages are so much fun.

Inspiration really comes from anything I see. A normal picture might be a project that turns out to be completely different then when I first started looking at it. Inspiration is all around us!

On Thursdays, I share one reader’s inspirations with you. Today’s inspirations are from Natalie Zee Drieu.  Natalie is an editor over at Craft, where she contributes to both the magazine as well as the blog, and she also has her own fashion blog called Coquette. Both are on my short list of must reads!

With the latest issue of CRAFT vol 8, I was able to explore my love of fashion with our new series called Craft: Collection. This was a way to showcase fashion that was either DIY or made by an indie designer. The first two designers at the top of my list were featured in this Craft Collection on dresses while my final choice pays tribute to an indie designer who’s now getting nationwide attention on Project Runway Season 5.

Liza Rietz -The clothing designs by Liza Rietz are simply breathtaking. Her clean designs incorporate modern silhouettes with special details, whether it’s a simple ruffle or bubble sleeve. Each piece is so stylish and yet also looks perfectly wearable.

Ashley Rose Helvey - I am in love with Ashley Helvey’s felt dresses which are all handmade through wet felting. She chooses vintage lace and felts them into the fiber so there’s absolutely no sewing done to the dresses. I also love that she shows some of the process shots of how she makes her felt dresses on her blog. Simply beautiful!

Leanimal - I’ve been an admirer of the green eco-friendly materials used by designer Leanne Marshall of Leanimal based in Portland, OR (I wrote up her fashions in my personal blog Coquette earlier this year). Her designs are modern with a soft edge which includes her special technique of layering shapes of fabric. I was pleasantly surprised to see her as a contestant on Project Runway 5!

Today’s inspirations are from Rachel of One Pretty Thing.

The incredible diversity of craft, art and DIY talent on the internet amazes me everyday. I started my website as a showcase for DIY ideas when I realized that I was spending entire days in front of my screen entranced by blogs, photostreams and craft forums.

1.  Janick Fonetik’s Flickr stream - Lately I’ve been drooling over every photo in Janick’s Flickr stream. She has the most delicious variety of eye candy! The color combos she uses in her jewelry are amazing and her embroidered wall art makes me smile!

2.  Anna Maria Horner - Anna Maria Horner is one my must-read daily blogs. She’s the reason I learned to sew and the inspiration behind many of my DIY projects. Her site just explodes with color and happiness. It’s best viewed in the morning with a cup of favorite tea and an idea notebook at hand!

3. Ambitions Design - Ambitious Designs Studio keeps me in contact with my favorite holiday year round! Her detailed Halloween sculptures are delightfully amazing. Every time I visit her blog or her Flickr stream I feel like Halloween, gorgeous foggy weather and my favorite Fall foods are just around the corner!

Today’s inspirations are from Becca. Becca lives in Baltimore and has just recently returned from a trip to Vienna, read her blog to learn about her trip.

I’m inspired by places….the atmosphere they create, and the feeling I get when I’m there. Two of my entries have to do with my creative development as a musician, which is unique to everyone, and so important. Places have a strong hold over my memory and mood, and these are the three of the strongest (outside of my mother’s kitchen!).

1.  The Austrian Gallery at the Belvedere Palace is one of the most beautiful settings for such powerful art I have ever seen. I’ll be traveling to Vienna in a week to spend some time in the Gallery, and the thought of walking through their breathtaking grounds is overwhelming.

2. These are some photos of Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra. I played in the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra throughout high school, and it was on this stage that I absolutely fell in love with classical music. Looking at the walls of the main hall still reminds me of that.

3. All the time I’ve spent here adds up to about 2 years…Interlochen Center for the Arts was the place I first learned it was okay to immerse yourself in what you love. I grew up at Interlochen, physically, mentally, and musically. For me, it is probably the essence of my musical inspiration.
