Honey as face wash? DIY

In the past few years I’ve been on a mission to de-toxify my life. This means eating better, using less chemicals in my home and on my person and choosing to surround myself with supportive and positive people, among other things.  It’s been a journey and some of these changes have been more successful than others. The homemade shampoo I made didn’t work out so well for me (more on that later though), but using baking soda and vinegar to de-gunk my drains has been working out fabulously.

One of the latest changes I’ve made has been to use honey as a face wash. Yup, I said honey and it’s changed my skin! A couple of months ago, I was doing some Internet research on homemade face cleansers and I came across a blog (sorry, I don’t remember what blog) that touted honey as a face wash. I was skeptical at first, but I decided to give it a try and I’m glad I did!

As I’ve gotten older, my skin has gotten drier…but, I still have oily skin too. It’s pretty maddening. I need oil and zit control, but most cleansers dry me out too much–especially in the winter.  Honey is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and moisturizing. It’s pretty much perfect for my whole face.  After using it for 1-2 months now, my skin is smooth and soft in ways it hasn’t been since I was younger.

What I do

Twice a day, I squeeze a tablespoon of honey into a damp washcloth. In circular motions, I scrub my face, avoiding my eyes and my hair.  I rinse the washcloth off and wipe off the honey and then I splash water on my face for a better rinse.

That’s it. Simple, non-toxic, cheaper than fancy face wash, effective and amazing.

I so recommend everyone try this and if you do, I’d love to hear your results.

Updo How-to’s from Samantha Hahn

11:40 am by

I was over checking out my bloggy pal Samantha Hahn’s website (blog) earlier today and I came across a couple of illustrations she did some for some magazines for updos tutorials. I don’t know about where you are, but where I live (on the East Coast US) it’s been hot as blazes. It’s actually cooler today—only like 87 instead of 103—but I still feel the need to put my hair up. I get tired of pulling into a pony tail or just piling it all up on top of my head though, so this serendipitous inspiration is much welcomed!

Now I’m off to Pinterest to go research updos.
