Today, I’m featuring the work of artist Jordan Kay Phillip. Jordan is a maker & seller of arty things as well as an artist for hire. She recently contributed an illustration to the latest issue of Joie mag, which you can see below.
Here are some of my favorites from Jordan’s Utopia series. the series is an ongoing project based on Jordan’s childhood fantasies about what she thought womanhood would be like. She admits to being thoroughly inspired by Hollywood film and that it certainly colored her expectations of what womanhood would be like. I asked Jordan to create a piece for Joie that had the feel of this series, but that also incorporated the theme of the issue (frolic) somehow. I think she hit it spot on!

Finally, here’s some of my favorites from Jordan’s Sketch Diary series.

Every month I find a new desktop calendar from some creative type for my ‘puter. For March, I’m loving artist Geninne Zlatkis’ calendar. (Geninne’s Art Shop)

A local gallery, Project Space, has an exhibit up right now by artist Emily Artinian called Occupy Your Wallet. It’s a collection of photographs from the Occupy Movement taken in Delaware and Zuccotti Park and everywhere in between. The photos are printed on credit card blanks and each has a message on the back. Some include the details of the exhibit opening and others include quotes from the pictured individuals. You know I love it when people create art in unexpected way, so of course I had to share this with you all.
To learn more, visit Project Space, Occupy Your Wallet and Emily’s Website (Emily also sells sets of the cards to library collections, get in touch here)

I have much love for this cute little shop (Krize Smilins) and what a wonderful place to get something for Valentine’s Day for your bestie (or yourself)!

It’s a rainy & cold day here—you know the kind of day that make you just want to never come out from under the covers. Maybe, I will do just that.

Well, I am back from vacation today and boy did I need that! Glad to back in the saddle again though…I missed you all. I do hope your holiday season was merry and bright!
Speaking of the holidays, I saw a rainbow on New Year’s Eve and it really struck me how crummy 2011 was for so many folks I know. The economy, the job market and our current political reality is…well, let’s just be honest—it’s pretty shitty. So, I saw this rainbow and instead of coming up with resolutions, which I never do anyway, I wished that rainbow to be fortuitous omen for all of us that things will get better in 2012.
I even made up a New Year’s Eve rainbow haiku, which you can print out, share and hang up.

Download and print it out!
