Yummy & Company planters are too yummy!

July 01, 2009

Artist Jennifer Wilfong of Yummy & Company does a little bit of everything. She paints, creates paper goods & makes jewelry from copper and polymer clay. But it was actually her polymer creations that caught my eye a couple of weeks ago when I saw them in person at an indie craft show….and especially her little polymer planters. She had them filled with succulents and they were just so cute and so perfect to brighten up a desk at work, a kitchen window sill or some other place needing a little cheer.

Jennifer sells the planters, which can also be used as small jewelry holders (someplace to put your ring when cleaning) or as MOO card holders, for $20 on her website. She doesn’t normally sell them with the succulents, but can upon request…although they may not hold up in shipment.

I have also got my eye on a few of her polymer jewelry pieces as well. I like this ring, this necklace and these earrings.

Art Star recap #1

June 01, 2009

As I told ya last week, I went to the Art Star Craft Bazaar in Philly this Saturday and as promised I am sharing some pics. With over 100+ vendors, it took me about 4 1/2 hours to see everything…okay, and talk to a lot of people as well.

For the next couple of days, I will be sharing some of my very favorite stuff and some of my very bestest pictures.

I almost bought one of these stuffed penguins from Miaow for Mr. Indie Fixx, but I thought he might not appreciate it enough and then I’d have to abscond with it and I have a plush problem as it is.

I also loved these stuffed birdies, all in a row,  from Miaow.

I just adore the pottery of Tasha McKelvey and she is a real sweetheart as well!

I especially liked this Yellow Ginkgo pot from Tasha McKelvey.  It called out to me to make it mine, but alas it wasn’t meant to be.

So, I am a big fan of chez-sucre-chez, as I am sure a lot of you are as well, and I find it’s always so nice to get to meet makers of stuff I like in person. I bought one of her cross stitch kits…the little owly one on the right.

Sharing a booth with chez-sucre-chez was Spread the Love  and I also made some purchases there as well…two wooden homey postcards. I’m going to frame them and hang them by my front door.

I would like a whole set of the skully pattern from Folded Pigs, please? (for sale at Art Star)

I went to Art Star with my friend Laura and we both cracked up over the little figurines from Andrew Zangerle. Especially this set. We pretty much decided that these were the perfect ones for us.

I loved Andrew’s sign!

As well as this drawing.

That’s it for today. I will share more tomorrow and on Wednesday.

It’s all about the bees

May 05, 2009

I love honey bees…they are so cute and I love anything cute. I’m kinda like Elmira Duff in that respect. I also like honey and eating all the foods that honey bees pollinate. Foods like broccoli, cantaloupe, squash, string beans, coffee and strawberries among many others.

By now, you’ve probably heard of Colony Collapse Disorder, the illness that is killing off the bees. More info can be found here about what CCD is and what researchers think may and may not be causing it. One thing researchers think may be a factor is pesticide use and you can help the bees by limiting your use of pesticides, especially at mid-day when bees are out foraging, or even eliminating pesticides totally. You can also plant plants that are beneficial to bees. I have already planted & I am planning on planting some marigolds, black-eyed susans, basil, zinnias, cucumbers and cilantro, all of which I read are great to attract bees. There are lists all over the Internet about plants that are native to your area that will attract bees, check it out.

I am also really interested in beekeeping and always thought I’d like to keep bees someday, maybe at our next house. I also just love these beekeeping paintings from Kim Fox (blog). They are 5″x5″ and are painted on wood. I can really see a grouping of them hung in my home.

Bow cute!

April 30, 2009

Adorable bow studs from Mod3rnArt would be so cute with a pretty vintage dress with a peter pan collar, a sweet little cradigan and some oxfords.  Am I right?
