The finalists are here for the Transitions Photo Challenge! It was really difficult to choose them…there were so many great entries, but I finally narrowed it down to 8 finalists. Now, Kellie from 74 Lime Lane, Nan Lawson and Claudia from A Place for Twiggs will be helping me choose a winner. Inspired by the seasonal change of summer into autumn, and back to school/work for many after the summer vacation, I chose the theme of transitions. Please feel free to interpret that theme any way you see fit…points will be given for creativity.

Some suggestions include: a pic of a sunset or sunrise, fall foliage, storm clouds on the horizon, black and white pics, baby kittens with their momma…you get the picture. The more creative, the better!

Myself and 3 other judges (Kellie from 74 Lime Lane, Nan Lawson and Claudia from A Place for Twiggs) will be choosing the most creative, fun, relevant and interesting photo from all those that are uploaded.

Prize:

In addition to bragging rights, one winner will be chosen to win a Bracelet Bag from Megan Leone (pictured above). It’s perfect for fall and is made with vintage tweed, lined in pretty evergreen fabric and comes attached to a vintage bracelet. It also has a heavy duty snap that’ll let you swap out bracelets and change the whole look up whenever you’d like!

In addition, the winner will also win their choice of an 8×10 Typography print from Nan Lawson. Nan is an illustrator based out of L.A. who creates quirky, sweet, poignant, fun and cute prints.

It’s time for another Weekly Photo Challenge!

In case you aren’t familiar with them,  I periodically post a Weekly Photo Challenge and ask readers to upload photos around a particular theme to the Indie Fixx Flickr Group. Participants have a week or so to get their  photos taken and added to the Group.

The idea is to provide everyone with a venue to share their craftiness and photography skillz & offer up some inspiration for everyone involved. Sometimes,  but not every time, I offer up a prize.

To hail the return of the Wednesday Indie Artist Fixx interview series after a spotty hiatus, I have a special treat for you guys. Not only am I sharing my interview with Rebecca Coagan Scharlatt, the designer behind the Morse coded jewelry line called COATT, but I’m also doing a fun giveaway as well. Rebecca has very generously offered up one of her custom Morse coded message necklaces for one lucky Indie Fixx reader to win. Read the details below and after that my interview with Rebecca.

Now onto my interview with Rebecca Coagan Scharlatt…

How did you come up with the concept for your Morse coded jewelry line? What was your inspiration?

I really wanted a necklace I could wear everyday and one that was feminine, modern and meaningful. As far as inspiration, over the past six months, of all day everyday morse coded necklaces, I have found a plethora of inspirations that were in brain storage—like the amazing Jonathan Safran Foer character of  Oskar, who makes his mom a Morse Code bracelet, and the old industrial building that I can see from my loft window with the name MORSE in huge white painted letters that are partly rubbed off with age.

Who are three of YOUR favorite jewelry artists?

I love Satomi Kawakita, Blanca Monros, Conroy and Wilcox…I have conflict free diamonds on my mind.

What’s the best about what you do? And the worst?

The best is that I have made something that I love and people seem to love. I hope to one day soon start making use of the pile up of ideas in my head. The worst thing is waiting and running a business 24/7 until I can afford to take the time to create again.

Share any big accomplishments or goals that you completed.

Having a website after making and selling jewelry lines for the past decade without one is a huge hurdle. I have a line that I love to make, I can make it in a way that doesn’t hurt the environment and makes so many people happy all over the world. It’s more like a dream than a goal.

Share 3 things that you are crushing on right now from other indie artists/crafters/designers.

1. I love Alisha Louise’s bracelets, yes, you heard it…bracelets…soon to be released! Her enamel work is so fine and plump, nothing else like it. In the meantime, I would like the entire collection of pendants.
2.I must have the entire collection of Lillith Rocket Ceramics. They are beautiful and timeless. I will definitely register with her when I get married.
3. Here’s a pretty personal one, I think after 13 years of being engaged I’ve finally settled on a stone by Conroy & Wilcox, just not sure which shape…TBD.

What’s new or in the works for COATT?

In the works for COATT short term are more pieces in the jewelry line, details coming soon! There’s also definitely going to be a shop, somewhere a gal can really go to town registering for her wedding. I’d like to have some products be a one for one business model like Tom’s does.
