Indie Style 101: Modern Lace

July 29, 2011

by guest contributor Shannon Waite

Hello! My name is Shannon and I’m the summer intern for Jen at Indie Fixx. Although this job is all done online, I’m from the Detroit area in Michigan. When I’m not working (I do that a lot), I’m spend my time
painting, drawing, writing, crafting, modeling and doing all sorts of other creative projects. My most recent kick is interior decorating.

For my debut post, I’ve put together an outfit for Indie Style 101 for you today. I love this outfit because it’s the best of both worlds: modern, and vintage! What more could you ask for? The simple dress makes a statement, while all of the other feminine accessories give it a subtle touch.

Guest Blog: Indie Style 101 – Nature-inspired

January 27, 2011

Christina shares an Indie Style 101 outfit with us. If you want to put an outfit(s) together for Indie Style 101, drop me a line.

by guest contributor Christina Crooks

This Indie Style 101 outfit brings handmade pieces, natural resources and a closet basic into play.

Nothing is more perfect that a comfy, cozy dress. I like choosing basic colors and classic pieces allowing for a blank canvas to decorate with my favorite accessories. This long-sleeved maxi dress is perfect for a lunch with the girls, a shopping run in town or an evening dinner date with your guy. A turquoise stone necklace adds such a great pop of color to the dark gray. And, the natural wooden watch and platforms provide texture to the whole outfit. I love incorporating nature into my ensemble. Grab a sleek clutch and you’re ready for whatever the day brings!

No. 1: By The Fire Chemise from Anthropologie

No. 2: DATE beige watch from WEWOOD

No. 3: chalk turquoise necklace from the vamoose

No. 4: SILVER SAGE clutch from MPsen

No. 5: High Walnut Point handmade shoes from mohop

This look is perfect for a dinner date or an evening event. It is simple and elegant. The neutral color palette allows the deep plum purple of the necklace to sing. The ruffles of the necklace add a softer touch to the structured dress.

  1. statement necklace  from White Owl
  2. scalloped bag from French & English Confectioner’s
  3. city skyline dress from LaBronz

Like to dress more laid back and are you all about comfort? Well, this look is for you. The fringe of the necklace adds an extra visual interest for a casual ensemble. It also gives a pop of color and flare with ease, giving you the ability to dress as comfortably as you want and still look extremely fashion forward.

  1. fringe necklace from norwegianwood
  2. parakeet clutch from FA2U
  3. boots from Loucella Vintage
  4. floral skirt from Chariots Afire

For those with more minimalistic taste, this style is great for you. The color block dress allows the bag and necklace to take center stage. The accessories give a touch of color without making the look to complicated or busy.

  1. necklace from garden of eden designs
  2. dress from Riordan Roache
  3. bag from retrofied
