This is Shagga kitty, Mr. Indie Fixx’s father’s kitty. She lived with us for a brief time last year until we had to find her another home because she didn’t get along with our other cats. We still get to visit her though.

Last week I saw this meme on Facebook about a shower taking 27 minutes. 2 minutes for washing and cleaning your body + 25 minutes for thinking time. That’s totally me!

It got me to thinking about all the other places where I come up with my best “big ideas”.

My Best Thinking Places

In the shower.

Over a cup of tea.

Laying on a blanket under a tree.

On a walk through the leaves.

Weeding the garden.

Whilst knitting and crocheting.

Baking bread, cookies or just about anything!

What are your favorite “big idea” thinking places?

Sometimes simpler is better….at least that’s my new mantra. Periodically, throughout my life, I have come face to face with the cold hard reality that I am not able to do everything. I know, right? It’s always a shock to me as well.

When that happens, it has been necessary for me to reexamine and re-prioritize what I’m spending my time on and make some changes. Lately, I’ve found myself in that place again needing to reassess and to that end, I’ve made a few changes in my life and my work.

I’ve shuffled priorities and even jettisoned a few, because…..well, what’s the title of this post? Simplify: it does a body & soul good.

Now, that I’ve got that all figured out, I’m going to go get a cuppa tea. Won’t you join me?

The beach in winter

On Friday, Indie Fixx Jr. and I went to the beach…in the cold. We mostly went because Jr. wanted to visit the shopping outlets there, but I was able to convince her to walk along the boardwalk and to visit the ocean.

The Ocean. Sigh. I’m so glad I live so close to the The Ocean. There’s just something about it that helps to reset my soul.

It was also fun to walk around the boardwalk and have to place almost to ourselves, even though it was ridiculous cold and windy. Visiting the beach in the off-season is a totally different experience than visiting in the summer. It’s also sort of a family tradition, which goes back to when Mr. Indie Fixx and I began dating as teenagers and we would sneak off to the beach in the middle of the night during the fall and winter.

It’s a stay in bed, rainy kind of day…

Occupy the Dream

Today is Martin Luther King Day here in the US, and I’m participating today in an Occupy the Dream event, which is one of many that are planned around the nation. In case you weren’t familiar, Occupy the Dream is about initiating a new campaign for economic justice inspired by the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Let’s all occupy that dream!

Rainbow haiku and wishing for good times to come

Well, I am back from vacation today and boy did I need that! Glad to back in the saddle again though…I missed you all. I do hope your holiday season was merry and bright!

Speaking of the holidays, I saw a rainbow on New Year’s Eve and it really struck me how crummy 2011 was for so many folks I know. The economy, the job market and our current political reality is…well, let’s just be honest—it’s pretty shitty. So, I saw this rainbow and instead of coming up with resolutions, which I never do anyway, I wished that rainbow to be fortuitous omen for all of us that things will get better in 2012.

I even made up a New Year’s Eve rainbow haiku, which you can print out, share and hang up.
