One of gifts I’m giving myself this holiday season (you don’t gift yourself? hmm, you gotta reevaluate that) is a terrarium. No, I’m not buying a ready made terrarium, but I am putting one together myself. I may be the last person on the interwebs who hasn’t yet built a terrarium, but I’ve dying to do it. So, I’m slowly gathering all the supplies and it’s one of the things I’m looking forward to working on after the holidays. I’ve already got the tutorial How to Build a Terrarium, Amy the intern wrote last year.
Now, I’m looking at terrarium miniatures. Here are some that I’ve got my eye on…make sure to read down to the bottom of the post to win a terrarium mini house from Little Red Door!

Ok I am hooked…I make terrariums & want to buy some of these little houses they are AMAZING!!! Very talented!! Thank you for the inspiration!
I LOOOOVE littlereddoor! She is one of my very favorite etsy sellers. I ordered custom initial houses earlier this year for my sister. She now loves littlereddor too!
ahhhhhhh! So cute, so wanting to see this in hand. I’d love to make a ornament terrarium with moss so I can hang it up and look at it all the time.
I love terrariums! I have three made out of clear glass bulbs with one open side. They hang in my kitchen and make me so happy!
Big red door fan- I love the houses with maple leaves!
I made a terranium once when I was little. Not sure it ever got finished. We madeour own figures out of that clay you make out of salt. Loved that stuff.
Ohhh I love these little things. I actually am trying to miniture terranium ornaments. It hasn’t been going to well as I thought. But as soon as I can I’ll have it together. Besides I still have a little time.
My mom and I created a terrarium out of a age light globe that no one else had a use for. I love the custom houses, it makes me jealous, i want a cute little house.
How beautiful!!!
I have been gathering supplies to build a terrarium and this little house would fit in perfectly with my little gnome and mushrooms!!!
xo
the custom made HOME houses are my favorite!
I love little houses and already are a big red door fan! fingers crossed for my change to win!
I am just about to make my first terrarium, too! 🙂

i love your little houses! my terrarium experience isn’t that advanced. i tried to make one before but the moss didn’t end up looking so good. i think it was too wet and with not enough air. but hopefully next time i will know better 🙂
Okay, just checked out LRD’s shop and I love the RIP tombstones, and the Double rainbow ACEO is adorable!
I love terrariums, which was all the rage in the 70’s! Mine had a little ceramic toadstool and a gnome. Loved that gnome! I would also love to own that little house!
I would love to make a terrarium. I was just looking into how to make them this week and I’m ready to get crafting!
I think the miniature igloo is so cute! this has given us some ideas…we are homeschoolers and I think making terrariums would be a fun project for us to do together…hope we win it! 🙂
That little house is cute as a button, it would be perfect in a little terrarium.
Great post ! Thank you for the giveaway 🙂 Love the little sauce dipping prep bows !
I have never made a terrarium before! thank you for sharing ideas :-))
I’ve never made a terrarium, but I’d want one of Little Red Doors mini houses with the red roof and red star front door if I did have one! 🙂
I love this from the little red door!

Ok, you inspired me! Now I want to make my own terrarium! So many little cute things, so little time!
oops, spelling mistake….really did mean terrarium, not terranium! sorry!
Oh goodness! I never even considered making a terranium, until now! How much fun that would be and what an amazing accent it would make. I’ve checked out the tutorial and will definitely be giving this a go over the christmas break! Thanks! LOVE Little Red Door houses, so fab! Thanks for the chance and inspiration!
I have loved The Little Red Door for a while now. I love the 4 little houses with blue roofs that spell H.O.M.E.
I think my mum was into terreriums in the early 80’s! Cute.
I just adore all of the selections you’ve posted here!!!
I had a terrarium last year. We had a great deal of fun misting our moss. We went on vacation and our moss dried up… but I’ve been yearning to make one again~ we used a snack jar we found at a thrift store. The colors from the sun that shone through were amazing. It was a green to yellow gradient glass… a magical little place for our gnomes to wander.
A friend and I made terrariums many months ago at our botanical conservatory. Mine is still producing lots of condensation even though I’ve only added a few drops of water since I made it. I love the simplicity but might be ready for a more adventurous one with figurines.
I love the little igloo from the Little Red Door! We already have two of her single houses, plus one set that spells “Dad”. The igloo would be a great addition to our collection ~ stereotypical Canadiana and all that! 😉
Its hard for me to keep my job and my hobbies separate so I thought instead of sewing as a hobby I’d try something else and came up with terrariums. It was so much harder than it looked! I went out and got a book, some plants, and a bunch of old bottles. Now I’m down to one surviving terrarium, the rest mostly rotted or grew mold. I wasn’t cut out for tiny plant lands I guess.
I haven’t made it to a proper terrarium yet, but I do have a little collection of miniature ceramic houses in my regular potted plants, including a couple from the Little Red Door!
I’ve tried making a terrarium and it had failed (cat knocked it down- woe!). I’d love to try again and I’m definitely bookmarking all of the vendors listed so I can do this one right. 😀
I have never attempted a terrarium, but I love the look of them, so maybe I should!
I love the little house ornaments, so tiny and sweet!
…just have a thing for little houses:-) Happy Holidays!
I, too, have been thinking of making a terrarium…hm, maybe it’s in the air. I want mine to have little deer in it and this house would be a great addition!! I have loved the little red door’s shop for quite some time now! my favorite item by her is the piece she made for her self–the party hard village–so adorable! thanks for the giveaway!

i adore the little shop and the little houses, i have a few mini’s in my little girls room and that would be perfect for the collection 🙂
Wow, it’s so cute!
Be sure that your plants actually like moist surroundings! Some may rot in too much water and that is not a pretty sight. :o(
From the shop, I quite like this little village! http://www.etsy.com/listing/61390951/home-little-house-village
I’ve never built one, but I always loved to see the pictures of people who share them on crafting communities. I wanted to make one with/for my mother, for some time, so this would be an excellent start 🙂
Great book : The New Terrarium by Tovah Martin – right up your alley in design
LOVE what you are doing
I actually was looking for little miniatures to put in my succulent pots. These would work great and the houses from Little red door are adorable
i forgot to share my favorite little red house item. i love octopi, and that ACEO is amazing, but i also lovelovelovelovelove the lemon-aqua gnome house – so cute!
well… I never made a terrarium before… but maybe I will just hà ve to now!
:o)
my first terrarium is going to be really simple, as i’m a little intimidated! i have a glass lamp shade (you know the ones with brass that cover the super-70s light fixtures?). i thought i’d paint it up and combine it with a silvered plate, then fill with reindeer moss from our woods.
i love these miniatures! especially the ones with the long “hat”.
great idea!
beautiful!
