I made an Apple Brown Betty today with the abundance of organic apples we have gotten from our farm share. I’m not sure what variety they are, but they are small, green and pretty darn tart. Just perfect for baking with I thought. I wanted to make something that wasn’t too sweet though. The mister and I don’t really care for desserts that are so sweet they make your teeth hurt. As far as I am concerned, a big juicy blushing nectarine is the world’s perfect dessert. So, I went looking for an apple dessert that wasn’t too sweet and I came across this recipe for Breakfast Apple Granola Crisp from Smitten Kitchen.
It turned out pretty good, although my granola ended up being a little too overdone, so I recommend cooking it with foil on for most of the time. I also used pecans instead of almonds and whole wheat flour. I ended up eating it with a spoonful of Greek yogurt, but I think it would tast gooed as a topping for some Trader Joe’s Soy Vanilla frozen dessert too, or just on it’s own.
This looks so delicious…and of course it’s super healthy because it’s fruit 😉
thanks, guys! had it for breakfast this morning.
ohhh my, that looks delish!
mmmmm….yummy ! Makes me think of fall weather curling up with a good book and my favorite mug full of hot tea!
