5 days and counting

Do What You Love What You Do print from letterhappy

This week marks the last week before my 2 week vacation….5 days and counting until I am laying on the beach waiting to get hot enough to run into the freezing cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean at the Delaware beaches. “What?” you ask. “This is the first I’ve heard about this 2 week vacation. What’s this all about, Jen?”

It’s true, I am taking a much needed vacation for 2 weeks. I haven’t taken that much time off in years and I’m feeling it. Mind, body & soul is telling me that I need a break, I’m listening and heading down to the beach this Saturday for one week of summer fun. After that, it’s back home for another week of day trips & of  relaxing poolside at our community pool. No work at all!

Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE what I do, but I still need a break. Us self-employed creative types will work all day and night (I know you know just what I mean) , and after a while of working like that one’s creativity can become sapped and it’s time to figure out a way to become re-inspired and refreshed…and what better way than an extended vacation?!!?

Now, do not freak out…I will have guest bloggers every day that I am away. Totally awesome guest bloggers like Victoria from sfgirlbybay, Natalie from craftzine + coquette, Margie from Resurrection Fern & many, many more of my favorite (& yours too, I’m sure) bloggers will be filling in for me while I am away.

While you guys are back home enjoying my guest bloggers, here’s some things I plan on doing while at the beach…with some help from the Summertime Galleria shops.

I will most definitely be spending a lot of time on the beach catching some rays, body surfing & walking along the surf.  We will be spending most of our time at Cape Henlopen at Lewes, DE.  I love it there and have been going since I was a kid. It’s a state park and the beaches tend to be less crowded and more like a natural beach than some of the other Delaware beaches.

I think I may even ride the Paratrouper at the Rehobeth Boardwalk.  I’m not a big ride person and I’m not really crazy about heights, but I’ve ridden the Paratrouper before and what a view of the ocean!

I also plan on eating copious amounts for watermelon…not to mention all kinds of fresh veggies. There are all kinds of roadside stands on the way to the beach, since lower Delaware is mostly agricultural land.

And of course, I will be drinking plenty of beer as well. Dogfish Head Brewery is right there after all!

I will also be celebrating my birthday over my vacation. I will be turning 39. It just doesn’t seem like I’ve spent 39 summers on this Earth. Here’s to me experiencing at least 60 or 70 more though!

  1. Love all the places you’ve mentioned. My husband, two children and I spent a Thanksgiving weekend in Rehobath – what a cool place to eat and shop! We went antiquing in Lewes – another lovely, historic area – and visited with a great friend and her family in Ocean City. Did some shopping too since Delaware doesn’t tax!
    Have fun and happy relaxing!

  2. Vacations = FUN. Enjoy your time off and have a super birthday. I’ll miss reading your stories with my am java, but am excited to read the guest blogs!

  3. Enjoy your well-earned vacation, Jen. You do a great job with this blog and deserve some time to recharge and renew!

  4. Happy early Birthday! I’m so happy you posted about which beach you’re going to. We’re still new to Baltimore and I’ve been trying to find beaches to visit that come highly recommended (at least compared to Ocean City). Have fun!
