Snowy days

img_4414.JPG

This was the view from my desk yesterday during the Snowpocalypse here on the East Coast.  The view is not as pretty today, since the snow stopped falling & after a night full of 50 mile per hour wind gusts. Now it’s time to dig out…or not, I have no place to go & plenty of groceries still.

But, there’s more snow on the way for Monday. No word on the expected accumulation, but really when will this end? So far, we’ve gotten over 60 inches of snow this winter. Last year, I think we received a total of 4 inches all winter long!

What about you? Were you in the path of Snowmageddon 2010? Or do you live in the Midwest US and can’t understand what us East Coasties are going on about? Or maybe you live in Hawaii, Aruba, Cancun or Bangkok and really just can’t relate? Share your snow stories in the comments.

  1. I LOVE snow. I lived in virginia for the first 14 years of my life, and we were lucky to have one good snow a year. Last august, we moved to Colorado. This winter, Colorado is having an unusually snow-less winter, and there’s 4 feet of snow in Virginia. I’m sorry to complain so much, but I’m beginning to think snow has a serious problem with me.

  2. OK, feeling guilty about my last post of 70 degrees and sunny in Austin, TX…
Our front has just blown in and within minutes, temps are at 45 degrees and it’s cloudy. We’ll be below freezing tonight…(but no snow.)

  3. It’s sunny and very pleasant today in Austin…70 degrees! This is after many days of continuous rain. However, we’re back into freezing overnight temperatures tomorrow…but nothing to compare to the northeast!

We have many friends up near you who are buried under a blanket of white as well. One friend is visiting Texas (her home) with her new baby. Her husband is buried under in Annapolis and she’s not sure if she’ll be able to make it back to MD!

I’d share my sunshine with you if I could!

  4. Our winter here in southern Ontario, Canada, has been quite snow-less. We’ve only had two big snowfalls. Otherwise, it’s been either warm and rainy or sunny, clear, and cool/cold.

It’s weird to think that we’re having a tame winter here while many places in the world are finding it to be more wintry than it has been in recent times.

  5. We live in Arkansas, and, although we’ve had nothing like the snow you have, we have still had insane amounts of snow for us! Unlike places that typically get snow, we don’t have the equipment or infrastructure to deal with what we are getting, and it shuts us down all the same.

  6. I’m lucky lucky to live in northern CA where we are most definitely not having snow. I do love snow and grew up in the Rockies, but I totally know how it can throw everything off when it’s totally unexpected. Good luck with the dig out!

  7. Snow sure looks pretty, but I wouldn’t want to deal with it and live at the same time like so many of you have to do.

I am much more used to dealing with earthquakes and forest fires that we have here in CA. (Not saying that I like them, but I can usually deal with them)

  8. I’m living in Seattle atm (which is dry and clear), but I’m originally from West Michigan. I know the snow drifts well 🙂 There is great beauty in snow – the way it makes everything quiet and calm and the sky a lovely purple – but it also hijacks your life.

  9. I live in the mountains in the southwest. We’ve been getting all your snow before you do. Thankfully we haven’t been getting near as much but it’s been practically non-stop. So I feel your pain, to a degree.

  10. I live in Saskatoon SK (Canada) and we’ve gotten heaps of snow this year too! Not so fun for the shovelling but good for the farmers come summer!

  11. i live in the midwest and we get 60+ inches every year, but i still understand your complaints.

especially when the wind is blowing. blizzards are not fun!

  12. Since I live in Northern BC, Canada, lots of snow is the norm for me, but this year we’ve had surprisingly little!

I can remember years (especially when I was a kid) when we would be completely snowed in, and have to climb out the upstairs window to shovel out our doorway. 🙂
