Guest Blog: Inspirations - hairy socks?
By guest contributor Catrina Dulay
One of my roles at Design Milk is to write articles based on e-mail submissions from designers and artists who would like their work to be featured on the website. One day, my editor forwarded me a submission a jewelry designer sent about a line of accessories she titled Hairy Socks. I browsed the photo gallery of the individual pieces, and immediately I was reminded of the reasons why I love working in graphic design. The quirky fun that characterizes the jewelry line is something I like to implement in some of the design pieces I create, and that’s what I’ve come to appreciate about what I do. I don’t like to just make things that others would consider “pretty”. I want to add a sense of fun so there’s something more to appreciate. That, in itself, is an inspiration to me because it serves as a constant reminder of why I like to add another dimension to my work by taking a step above to create something distinctive. For the most part, Hairy Socks is a part of a wide range of other things that inspire me as a designer and I hope that someday, my work could be an inspiration to someone else who seeks it.
