Angela Stasio – Angela is the illustrator, designer, and craftsperson behind The Paper Apartment. She lives in Boston, Massachusetts with her husband and two fun cats. Her most favorite things aside from making stuff include car rides to new places, cooking dinner, and dancing around. Smoothies are good, too. You can learn more on her blog.

1.  How do you describe your work?

I see my work as being very feminine, and definitely reflective of my interests in fairy tale and fashion-based imagery, as well as nature. Most of my illustrations involve portraits with a subtle narrative and always a strong attention to detail, whether that be through the use of paper cutting or hand-drawn patterns.

2.  What are your inspirations in your art and life?

My inspirations can come from just about anything, but I do think that a lot of stuff that appealed to me growing up has just stuck with me. My fascination with fairy tales, or discovering my first fashion magazine, for instance, kind of set a tone for me that continually inspires new ideas and images. And I feel like my desire to create, in general, comes from the very simple wish to always be surrounded by pretty things.

3.  What do you do to help feed your soul?

I feel like the way I’ve chosen to live my life, maybe not making a lot of money, but really just trying to do the things I love to do, is endlessly soul-feeding! No, I don’t have a working television right now and it can be scary to not have a traditional full-time job, but I’m basically doing what I like and I’ve got plenty of time to do it in. It’s really pretty nice. I also spend about 20 minutes soaking in the bathtub almost daily. People always laugh when I tell them that, but seriously, it’s like pushing the reset button after a not-so-great day. Baths! So good.

Shira Sela – Shira Sela is an artist, illustrator and designer. She works with both traditional and digital mediums and loves to use pencils, inks and markers as well as graphic and illustration softwares. You can find her work in her Etsy shop and on her website.

1. How do you describe your work?

I draw figures, usually girls, in situations that express certain moods or capture certain atmosphere. I try to show a glimpse into their inner world.

2. What are your inspirations in your art and life?

I find inspiration in my life and childhood experiences, dreams, nature and our relationship with it. I was always drawn to Asian art and culture and I also find inspiration in vintage children books and the work of many artists.

3. What do you do to help feed your soul?

I enjoy listening to music, taking long walks with my husband, and, of course, drawing and painting.
