When Canadian artist Roberta Murray of Uncommon Depth steps outside her door, she is likely to see the sites above. About her wilderness home, she writes:
Most days I simply have to step outside my door to make the kinds of pictures most photographers have to plan months in advance to get. Our property borders crown land and we’ve purposely kept it close to it’s natural state, which means we attract a wide variety of birds and wildlife. From bears and cougars, to deer, moose and elk – it’s probably easier to count what animals we haven’t seen than what we have by simply looking out the window. The front of our property features a large pond which is the subject of many of my photographs, while the back transitions into true wilderness. Being close to the mountains means we experience fairly extreme weather, from heavy snowfalls in winter (which usually lasts 5+ months) to severe thunderstorms in summer. I used to curse our bad climate, but have embraced it for the moodiness it lends my images.
Her work is awe inspiring & poetic and that’s why I chose Roberta to participate in the Indie Fixx Holiday Galleria. You can can see more of her work in her Shop, in her Etsy Shop, on her Blog, and on her flickr page. I’ve featured some highlights below. Plus, check back next Tuesday when I’ll share a great holiday salad recipe from Roberta!
