I know we just finished up with Halloween and no one really feels like thinking about the craziness of the holidays yet, but pretty soon the holidays will be upon us. That means it’s time to start shopping indie. Since, most independently made goods are handmade by one or a few individuals, it is a good idea to shop early. Large mega-retailers can keep those shelves stocked right up to the last minute, but our little indie elves need time to make all their wonderful indie goodness with their little indie elf fingers. I know you don’t want to face it yet, but it’s a good idea to start your holiday indie shopping now. It’s not like you have to go fight at the mall or at one of those mega-stores, you can shop from the comfort of your own home (or work for a lot of you) or attend local craft shows, which are fun in and of themselves.
While your at it, you might as well head over to BuyHandmade.org and add your name to the list of peeps who have already pledged to support independent artists instead of huge mega-corporations this holiday shopping season.
I’ve gotten started at least 🙂
Although I can’t believe they already put up the Christmas tree at the mall…
I’m actually about 90% done with my shopping. I started in July. 😉 Last year, I almost ran away from home rather than face holiday shopping on top of everything else I has to do for the holidays.
Hear hear! I’m all for people starting their shopping early to help maintain the mental and physical wellbeing of their favourite indie designers. And I’m certainly starting early this year as I know in a few weeks I probably won’t have a moment to even think about it.
