Zip It!

I saw these Zipper Flower Pins on Whip Up the other day and thought they were so clever that I just had to post about them. They are made by designer Kate Cusack, are available in a variety of colors, and are the moxiest accessory I’ve seen in a long time. I love ‘em!

Unfortunately, Kate’s site isn’t fully ecommerce yet, but you can contact her via email if you’d like to purchase one of her creations. She was actually very nice and very helpful when I contacted her about getting more info about her pins. In fact, I discovered that my local Contemporary Art Museum carries Kate’s pins, so I am super excited about going to check them out in person. Her pins are also carried by San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design Store, Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston Store, Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago Store, among others. If you are looking for an online shop, Uncommon Goods carries both the red and black pins.

Kate also creates these one-of-a kind zipper necklaces.

Fill your plate!

Indie FIxx is the Blog of the Week over at Mixed Plate! Mixed Plate is written by Liana, who is also the deisgner behind On a Friday. Liana writes and designs from Honolulu, Hawaii and I’ve got to tell you that I am more than just a little bit jealous! Make sure to check out all the nice things Liana had to say about me and Indie Fixx. Thanks, Liana!

Out of This World!

My mother always taught me that it’s nice to share, I think that’s why I love doing Indie Fixx so much, so when I came across Astrosatchel I just had to share this tip with you! If you are a regular reader of this blog, then you know how I love vinyl bags and that I can never have enough. Everyone’s got to have their vice and mine are buying bags and lip balms compulsively. Anyway, before I digress much further back to Astrosatchel. Designed and created by Janna Hurtzig, Astrosatchel is a line of nature-inspired vinyl handbags. The designs of the messenger style bags are created either with stitch work or appliqué. I love the color combinations and I think my favorite designs are Stitch Flower, Dandelions and Cotton Flower.

Embroidered fashions for dirty-minded girls

Inspired by an embroidered handkerchief, Locher’s is a clothing line for sweet little dirty girls. It’s a little bit vintage and a little bit, well…naughty secretary. The Locher’s line combines beautiful flower embroidery with embroidered sayings like, Dirty Little Lovemaker, Life is Fucked Up, You Suck, and I Love Porn.

Thanks to Style Bytes for the find.

A penny for your thoughts

I’m in a paperie kind of mood lately. My latest find that I am coveting these days are these gorgeous Flower Journals by Paper Cloud. Filled with blank pages for your thoughts and doodles alike, they come in three sizes to best suit your needs. Now, all I need is a nice spring day, a couple of sharp Dixon Ticonderoga pencils, and a great big oak tree.

With twice as much space, the new location will allow Magpie to carry more of their signature mix of hip DIY crafts, works by indie artists and designers, and vintage goodies. Magpie carries such well known designers as Happy Owl Glassworks, Ex Libris Anonymous, and My Paper Crane.

Little Jackie Paper

I must own this lovable Little Felt Dragon by Tania Teigen of Nobellas and available at Quiet Hour Toys. My grandmother collected ceramic dragons and before she passed away, she gave some of her collection, including my favorite, a white ceramic music box dragon that plays Puff the Magic Dragon.  She would have adored this lovable cutie.

Quiet Hours Toys is a cute little shop offering handmade goodies that emphasize craft, quality and a certain unmistakable magic that will delight the little people in your life. Check out the Quiet Hours Print by artist Krista Stout of Papered Together, Floral Crown for dress-up by Jess Nicole of Whimsy, and this adorable Cottage Dollhouse by Holzkram.

I walk the line

I love Johnny Cash—his American III & American IV records were totally amazing. He was a truly inventive musician, one who didn’t bow to convention or who could not be pigeonholed into one genre.  In fact, he is so impossible to label that he has grown into a musical legend who can both be described as a cult icon and a pop icon—there are not many performers that you can say that about.

If are a fan like me, then you will get a kick out of this Cash is King change purse from Guapa at Etsy. It’s available in a variety of prints, but I like the corduroy best. This would make a good gift for both guys and girls.

Tweet, tweet

I adore these delightful little glass birds made by artist Matthew Stewart and available at Etsy. They are hand sculpted using traditional Italian techniques and are available in a variety of gorgeous, muted colors. I think they are thoroughly charming and that they would make the most wonderful gifts for Mother’ Day. Thanks to Box vs. Indie for the find.

Here Kitty Kitty

Check out the adorable artwork by Jamie Fales of Noosed Kitty! Jamie’s art is a wonderful mix of whimsy and melancholy that I find to be perfectly captivating. As a cat lover, I can’t resist the Chinese Kitty and Chinese Kitty 2, but Jamie has tons of other whimsical art treasures that are available for sale, such as buttons, shirts, prints and greeting cards which are coming soon!

Fragrance for you and your home

Orion Botanica offers a whole line of sinfully decadent body products and home fragrances. The Body Lotion is everything you need in a body lotion. Your skin will love you when you use this creamy, smooth lotion that’s available in a variety of organic fragrances. My favorite is the woodsy, natural Sandalwood.

And instead of using an air freshener with harsh chemicals, try the fabulous Room & Linen sprays! Even if you live miles from an ocean, bring the sea breeze into your living room with the tropical, coco-nutty Beach scent. If you are looking for the opposite of a beachy scent, try the Snow fragrance. It’s a light and crisp scent with the slightest hint of evergreen.

I’m also a fan of the Home Perfume Diffusers—they are perfect for people with kids or pets. I love coming home from work to a fresh-smelling house, something you just can’t do with candles. The Orion Botanica scents are not overpowering or overbearing, but are totally subtle and pleasant. They are also made from all natural and organic ingredients. Treat yourself to something truly luxurious.

What kind of orangyporangy girl are you?

More great spring fashions for you from orangyporangy. The orangyporangy collections are all about simplicity and fun and with its four style modes, there’s something for everyone. The Opal category is for those who want classic styles that are updated with modern fabrics, while the Poly designs are for those looking for that vintage feeling. The Jane line is made from cozy jersey and is simple yet hardly plain, while Lucy is a collection of unique hand printed tees with original designs. I’m not sure which is my favorite collection, I think I’m just a little bit Opal, Jane, Poly & Lucy.

That old time feeling

Looking for a little retro kitsch lighting design for your home, Hunky Dory Home has the goods. Hunky Dory Home at Etsy offers handmade drum lampshades in fabulous and funky retro-inpsired prints. You can also pick up coordinating pillow covers to help complete the look.

More chocolate, please!

If you are like me, you are loving the latest ubiquitousness of the color chocolate brown. Chocolate brown reminds me of the taste of hot chocolate after playing in the snow, my favorite candy bar melting in its wrapper on the bike ride back from the corner store in summer, my favorite velveteen Barbie doll dress and all sorts of other good memories. Chocolate brown is a warm & delicious color and I love it. If you, like me, desire yet another fix of chocolate, check out this stunning Velvet and Pearls necklace by Filial and available at Funky Utopia. Gorgeous and on sale, it is one-of-a-kind so snap it up before someone else does.

I’m not sure how I first came across this shop, I think it may have been fom Poppy or an email tip. However I found out about Nydam Press, since I first saw their block print cards and prints I’ve not been able to get enough. There is something very rich and bold about the block prining and I really adore the design motifs. I definitely have my eye on that Guitar print for a gift for a friend.
