Esty Pick of the Day from Poppy

One of my favorite bloggers, Jan from Poppy, wrote me about a new feature on her site and I just wanted to share it with you. Every day Jan will showcase a favorite pick of hers from Etsy with her Etsy Pick of the Day. Jan has fabulous taste, so I recommend popping over to Poppy and checking out her latest pick. If you are an Etsy seller or know of a really great Etsy seller, submissions can be sent here.

A little moxie for your MP3 player

Remember the days before iPods and CDs, when you made mix tapes instead of playlists? Well even if you weren’t actually born yet, you just can’t resist the cute, retro feel of these Mix Tape iPod Cozies from MoxieMadness at Etsy, can you? Stick your iPod or MP3 player in one of these guys to protect it from scratches, scrapes, and other type stuff. And don’t worry if you never stopped making mix tapes and don’t have an MP3 player, you can use the cozy as a change purse or even put your cell phone in there!

Poppies will put them to sleep…

I like red poppies. I think they are pretty and so is this Silk-screened Red Poppy Tee from Harrilu. I think my like for poppies came from all those times watching the Wizard of Oz when I was kid, the poppy scene was one of my favorites.

Specs

Need a cool case to keep your specs or your shades in? Check out the Eyeglass Cases by FluffyCo and available at Big Red Bow.

Warm and romantic red

I like this pretty red shawl from Knitting Guru at Etsy. As I’m sitting here watching the snow fall outside while I type, I think this would be a good investment. Warm and beautiful, who could ask for anything more?

Got the time?

I have no time for clocks, pun totally intended. I stopped by being a clock watcher about 6 years ago and I’ve never looked back. I don’t even own a watch, so I think it would be highly ironic for me to wear one of these unique necklaces made from clock parts made by Katrinbird Designs .

Pretty in sage, red, pink and chocolate brown

Oh, these Crochet Earrings by ClinkscalesArts are just pretty! Looks like they are available in red, pink and cocolate brown too.

Nothing is official yet, but remember back when I did that reader survey? The pretty wavy embroidery totally makes this charming purse by ChicBoutique at Etsy. Be sure to check out all the amazing fabric purse at ChicBoutique.

Rock on!

Looking for something a little more rock-n-roll in the bedroom? People get your minds out of the gutter, I’m talking about duvet covers and pillows shams, not whatever it was you were thinking about…

Luxury Lab Linens is not your average bedding company and their designs appeal to those who are looking to outfit their beds with a little something special. Designs include Phoenix Rising, which consists of a two-headed rust red silk-screened phoenix with heart center and Elegant Mayhem, which combines black skull and crossbones pillow shams and a black chandelier design on the duvet cover.

Anyone remember Mr. Greenjeans?

Greenjeans, the very cool little shop located in Brooklyn’s South Slope area has a new online shop. Greenjeans’ business tagline is handmade for conscientious living and they understand the importance of sustainability, craftsmanship, and conscientious living and put those ideals into practice at Greenjeans.

Inspired by the principles and aesthetic ideals upheld by the Shakers, the Arts and Crafts Movement, and the Mingei movement of Japan they stock the shop with amazing finds like the Heart Bunny by artist Judy Geagley, Starburst Pendant by Alison Mackey, and the Poppy Orb by Jane Kaufmann. New items are in works to be added, so make sure to check back often.

Foxy lady

What a hot little gem I stumbled across! Bolsa Bonita creates sexy purses for foxy ladies and I gotta say these are some sexy purses. They are made from the most amazing fabrics I’ve ever seen—seriously, the variety is endless. I cannot begin to do justice to the fabric styles offered, so you are just going to have to go poke around yourself to see what I mean. I think Liz Potter, the designer behind Bolsa Bonita, must be a fabric junkie and that’s a very good thing. Whatever your tastes may be, I guarantee you will be able to find a bag you like at Bolsa Bonita.

Return of the Queen

I’ve been into tree motifs lately and I just found some more tree stuff to fit into the pattern. Screenprinted and embroidered tees from Taylor Made Clothes. I like the Leaves Stitched Sheer Tunic and Big Tree Sheer Tee, which reminds me of the Tree of Gondor. Yea, I know I’m such a nerd.

Oh, my darling!

Ach Ach Liebling means “oh, oh darling!” in German and Ach Ach Liebling creates the most darling jewelry. Ach Ach Liebling offers craft plastic tile Scrim pendants and plastic tile pendants printed with vintage and antique images. Other jewelry includes reworked vintage, metal, and resin necklaces, earrings, bracelets and brooches. The scrim necklaces are fabricated by hand from poly-styrene, an artist-grade plastic and the images are selected from old typesetter’s blocks and artisan-crafted stamps and then imprinted with indelible inks. Fascinating, darling!

I love the motifs and the distinctiveness of the images on the Scrim pendants. I especially like Winter Tree, Flutter By, and Light Ferns.

:)

I don’t know about you, but I find that sometimes when I write notes by hand I want to use emoticons even though I can draw an actual smiley face. With these totally geeky and cute Emoticon Magnets by Pillowhead, I can leave notes on the fridge and fulfill my daily emoticon quota.

Corduroy’s missing button…

Remember the book Corduroy from when we were kids? I really liked that book, maybe that’s why I like corduroy so much. I have corduroy pants, a corduroy jacket, a corduroy scarf, and other corduroy accessories, but I don’t have a corduroy bag–or least not yet. This chocolate-colored coruroy bag by Wonderful Day Designs has a paisley lining, a cute little polka-dotted bow and a nice long strap. Plus it has a zipper, so you don’t have to worry about losing any buttons…. ;)

5 things…

I’m a little slow…I read Mallory’s post on Miss Malaprop all about how she was tagged for the “Five Things You Didn’t Know About Me” meme that’s been making the rounds and didn’t realize she had tagged me until I started getting traffic from it. What can I say; it’s one of those lazy Sunday afternoons and I’m not the brightest crayon in the box today…But, I’m sitting here listening to Pandora (my current channel is The Brian Jonestown Massacre if you wanna listen along) and trying to procrastinate, so it’s the perfect time to do a meme.

Five Things You Didn’t Know About Me

1. I was kissed by a killer whale at Marineland in Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada when I was 11 years old. It was not unpleasant, but scary as crap. I’ve only ever met one other person who can claim being kissed by a killer whale and that is my step-mom in a totally unrelated killer whale kissing incident.

2. I stepped on Truman Capote’s feet when I was a toddler. I lived in Keywest, Florida until I was 2 years old and my mom took my along to some lecture or political rally of some kind. Truman Capote was sitting just a couple of chairs down from us and me being a toddler at a lecture/political rally, I entertained myself by running back and forth in our row. Apparently, I stepped on his feet more than once and he was completely gracious.

3. My top 3 favorite songs are:
Across the Universe by the Beatles
Sing by Blur
Porcelain by Moby

4. I have a long-time crush on Ewan McGregor. Nothing more to be said except that is one hot Scotsman.

5. In high school, I took 4 years of music theory, I belonged to chorus, played the clarinet, and even worked as the music director on plays. I wanted to go to Berklee College of Music in Boston. Needless to say, I did not go to Berklee and I couldn’t play the clarinet now if my life depended on it. Just goes to show you that you don’t need to figure out what you want to do when you grow up in high school, b/c you will probably just change your mind anyway. Besides, I am a total advocate of unschooling and the democratic free school movements now anyway.

I tag Funky Finds, Jena from Modish, Want, Need, Have, & Brandy from Indie Obession.

Lions and tigers and protozoa, oh my!

This is one artist who shouldn’t be starving, because she makes the most gorgeous glass pendant jewelry. Starving Artist Bazaar creates glass art pieces inspired by natural objects that you might not otherwise see embodied as jewelry—Protozoa, Eukaryotes and even Amoebas. It may sound weird, but the pendants are actually visually stunning. The colors are vibrant and the color combinations are highly appealing. This is the type of jewelry that is easy to wear dressed up or dressed down and will be sure to get you noticed. Each piece is truly one-of-a-kind.

Birds and cats…

Oh, this is cute! Cat Cloud screenprinted long sleeve tee from Red Prairie Press. I have three “bird-watching” kitties and one of those is also a bird-chomping kitty. She is a rescued feral cat and we’ve never really been able to make her much of house kitty. She likes to eat the heads off of the birds—birdbrains must be extra special tasty or something. Wait this post took a turn for the worse…My other kitties are completely wholesome kitties just like pictured in this nice t-shirt.

A Valentine’s Day Suitcase filled with love!

When I was a little girl, my Gradmom was my Valentine. Every year for Valentine’s Day, she would send me a package with stickers, activity books, pencils, maybe a Valentine’s Day themed pin, other little Valentine’s Day gifties, and of course candy. I looked forward to my Grandmom’s packages, because I knew that they were filled not only with fun stuff, but were also filled with love. Even though I’m a “grup” now, I miss her and her packages filled with love.
